A Yakasugi knife strop made from Oak and 4mm thick black veg tan leather.
Size : block size - 210 x 45 x 15mm.
Leather pieces - 200 x 45 x 4mm.
Each side is marked 1 or 2 to ensure its clear side.
The wooden block is burnt using a Japanese woodwork technique called Sho Sugi Ban, then oiled using Boiled Linseed Oil and then finished using clear varnish.
The wood is burnt and then brushed with a series of finer brushes to accent the grain, the wood is then oiled for durability and then varnished to finish the effect.
These strops can be used to achieve a hair splitting sharp edge, as shown in the last picture when used with stropping compounds. I achieved this level of sharpness on my Yakasugi Opinels, Bushcraft knives and even my Yakasugi Axes on these strops with black / green silverline stropping compound.
